Cecile Gurrola-Faulconer Biography
Cecile is a popular Ventura artist who mixes mythologies from around the world including her Greek and Mexican heritage into her elaborate ceramic masks. With an idea as a starting point she sculpts her work intuitively, responding to the natural movements of the clay, avoiding the use of models or molds.
Cecile uses a variety of firing methods but is mostly drawn to the raku low-fire combustion process which creates the metallic slashes of copper, gold and silver, and the vivid coloration that is often prominent in her work. Curly eyelashes, feathers, metal screws, beads and jewels may also be incorporated into her creations.
Cecile is a board member of the Ventura County Potters Guild and Buenaventura Art Gallery. Her work has been featured in prominent Tri-County publications and has been exhibited at several galleries in southern California.
